The saga of Marvin Vettori vs. Paulo Costa seems never-ending.
Both fighters were scheduled to fight at middleweight at UFC Fight Night 196, but that is not the case anymore. Costa, at media day, announced that he was way above the weight limit. On Wednesday, his weight was 211 pounds, and he said he won’t be able to make weight for a middleweight bout.
After many discussions, the fight was changed to a 195 catchweight bout. However, according to the latest reports, it will go down as a light heavyweight fight.
This is the second time the fighters have agreed to change the weight class, and this change comes just 24 hours before the weigh-ins. It was revealed that Costa will also give up 20 percent of his purse to Vettori because he didn’t make weight.
Vettori looked on the path to make the weight for a middleweight bout, but he has been game about the whole situation. ‘The Italian Dream’ was the first one to break the news of Costa being overweight. He has also constantly said that he’ll fight at any weight, so it will be interesting to how his game plan changes now that the fight has been shifted to 205 pounds.
Both fighters trying to make weight
Since the announcement of the fight taking place at catchweight, both fighters have put in the effort to make the weight.
Paulo Costa posted a video of himself on Twitter. He was in a portable sauna and said he was cutting weight but didn’t like that too much. Along with the video, he wrote, “Stop Changes.”
