Cameron Smith Becomes Latest Player to Complete PGA Tour’s Hawaii Slam: What is it About?

Cameron Smith registered a historic victory at the 2022 Sentry Tournament of Champions. The Australian golfer obliterated the field with a score of -34. Notably, this is the lowest score ever in the PGA Tour history, with -31 being the previous best. World No. 1, Jon Rahm finished just a stroke behind with a score of -33.

Not to mention, Cameron Smith held the lead from round one and finished the event as a winner. Even though he received a tough fight from Jon Rahm, he managed to hold his nerves and emerge victoriously. Notably, with his win at the Kapalua golf course, Cameron Smith has completed the Hawaii Slam. But what exactly is the Hawaii Slam? Let’s find out.

Completing a Hawaii Slam means winning every event of the PGA Tour from Hawaii. Since Smith has already won the Sony Open in Honolulu, his victory at the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Maui this year meant he bagged yet another feat. Moreover, he became only the sixth golfer to do so.

Previously, Justin Thomas, Zach Johnson, Jim Furyk, Ernie Els, and Vijay Singh have completed the PGA Tour’s Hawaii Slam. Notably, Justin Thomas and Ernie Els are the only golfers to achieve this milestone in one season. JT did it in 2017, while Ernie Els did the same back in 2003.

After this victory at the Kapalua Plantation Course, Cameron Smith has made his way into the top 10 OWGR rankings. Before this win, Smith was in the 22nd position. But following his victory, he has made it to the top 10 rankings for the first time in his career. Certainly, he will hope to continue this momentum and get into the top 5 of the OWGR rankings soon.
