Mardy Fish and Jim Courier Heap Praise on Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev for Representing Their Countries

World No. 1 and 2, Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev have had brilliant seasons on the ATP Tour in 2021. Both players have won numerous prestigious title and the friendly rivals also met each other in three different finals.

Recently, both Djokovic and Medvedev confirmed their participation in representing their nations at the Davis Cup 2021. Their decision was deeply appreciated by former players Jim Courier and Mardy Fish. After having strenuous seasons on Tour, for them to commit themselves for the year-end tournament is commendable.

“That you have Djokovic and Medvedev is fantastic”: Jim Courier talks about Davis Cup 2021

Appreciating their decision, Mardy Fish stated, “Novak has shown that playing for his country matters to him. That’s great for Davis Cup. I see that Russia and Italy are coming in with pretty heavy teams. Clearly, the format change won’t tear guys away.”

Fish sensed that representing his country is really important for the World No. 1 player from Serbia. Novak lost in the semi-finals of the Olympics and the bronze-medal match as well. The Serb was disappointed at not getting a medal home from Tokyo.

Mardy was also relishing the prospect of seeing teams like Russia and Italy sending in strong squads.

On the other hand, Courier too shared a similar opinion and stated, “This year probably feels longer than others because of all the bubbles the players endured, so it’s really impressive that so many guys are in. The fact that you have Djokovic and Medvedev is fantastic. If you count healthy players, you have plenty of star power.”

Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev have a good shot at glory

Courier highlighted the differences players have felt this season. As compared to usual, players were forced to live in a bubble for the majority of events in 2021. The former Grand Slam champion felt this is a great opportunity for the players to end the season by winning a title representing their countries.

The 51-year-old further added, “I’m not surprised by that, because there’s such prestige and honor in Davis Cup. The players realized they have a chance to do something they can carry with them through the rest of their lives.”

Coming to tennis, Djokovic and Medvedev were the only players to win Grand Slam titles this season. The Serb won the first three Majors this season, whereas the Russian player won his first Grand Slam at the US Open. We wish all players the best of luck for the Davis Cup 2021.
