REPORTS: Dallas Cowboys WR Amari Cooper Fined $14,650 for Protocol Violations

Dallas Cowboys star wide receiver Amari Cooper was fined $14,650 by the NFL, according to ESPN. The player attended the Dallas Mavericks game last week without following the COVID-19 protocols for an unvaccinated player. Cooper was found not wearing a mask during the event.

Cooper was also seen on the sidelines during the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic game between Alabama and Cincinnati. The receiver was cheering for Alabama, the alma mater of the established receiver. However, he was not alone. He was seen with his teammates CeeDee Lamb during the Mavericks game and Trevon Diggs during the Cotton Bowl.

According to the NFL and NFLPA, “an unvaccinated player can attend a sporting event but must sit in a luxury suite with a mask and not be surrounded by more than 10 people.” But since both of his teammates are vaccinated, they were exempted from the said rule while Cooper was not. In fact, Cooper was also seen sitting on the courtside during the Mavericks game.

The Cowboys during their season finale matchup crushed the Philadelphia Eagles with a 26-51 win. Yet both the teams made the playoffs. Cowboys ended the season with a respectful 12-5 record. And quarterback Dak Prescott seems to be under fire right now. He finished the game with 21 of 27 pass attempts for 295 yards and an astonishing five touchdowns and no interceptions.

Cooper heads towards the playoffs

“You don’t want to get sick. This is the tournament. We train so hard in the offseason, OTAs, camp, to get to this point. We accomplished that goal thus far,” Cooper said heading towards the playoffs. “We’re going to do everything we can do to not get sick. If that means isolation, then that’s what that means. Hopefully, we can isolate enough to not catch it.”

Earlier this season Cooper missed two important games after testing positive for COVID-19. During those two games, the Cowboys lost to the Chiefs and the Raiders. So it will be crucial for the player to remain healthy heading towards the playoffs and not cost the franchise any more losses due to his absence.
