Spire Motorsports Reveals Massive Plans for 2022 NASCAR Season After Selling a Cup Series Charter

The Spire Motorsports team seem to have some big plans in the near future. According to some reports the outfit are pursuing the opportunity to add a Truck Series team next year. The team has reportedly sold its #77 Cup Series charter, which could free up space for the Truck Series venture.

According to the outfit, they have roped in Kevin “Bono” Manion as crew chief, with Mike Greci overseeing the program. Though it is worth mentioning that there is no news of a driver being recruited for the moment. Greci will vacate his Hattori Racing Enterprises general manager role, a position he held for the last six seasons. Meanwhile, Manion moves to Spire after a two-year stint at GMS Racing.

What else lies ahead for Spire Motorsports?

Spire Motorsports’ T.J. Puchyr said, “After spending the last three seasons establishing our footing in the NASCAR Cup Series, Spire Motorsports is eager to lean on Mike Greci’s leadership and build a competitive NASCAR Camping World Truck Series team. Mike’s resume speaks for itself. He’s a proven winner and excels at developing young talent. We’re fortunate to add someone as accomplished as Mike to our roster. Being able to complement him with an experienced, championship-winning crew chief in Bono Manion creates a foundation that we expect to be successful right out of the gate.”

Over the course of his career, Greci triumphed with Martin Truex Jr in 2009 and 2010. Aside from him, he has worked with Dylan Kwasniewski, Ben Rhodes, William Byron and Justin Haley. Meanwhile, Manion can proudly say that he has guided teams to titles in all three NASCAR series. This includes back-to-back Xfinity championships with Martin Truex Jr. He also boasts of Cup Series wins, including the Daytona 500, Brickyard 400 and Bank of America 500 with Jamie McMurray. Manion has also worked with the likes of Daniel Suarez, Kyle Busch, Tyler Ankrum and Zane Smith.
